Buying vs Renting……

The better option is the one that fits your finances, lifestyle, timeline and goals.

A rent payment also should not be compared with ONLY the principal and interest portion of a mortgage. Depending on the property and deal structure, homeownership may involve:

• Property taxes
• Homeowners insurance
• Association fees
• Closing costs
• Maintenance and repairs
• Money needed for unexpected expenses

The monthly payment matters, but it is only part of the decision.

You should also consider how long you expect to remain in the area, how much flexibility you need, whether your income is stable and how much money you will have left after purchasing the home.

Buying may be the right move. Renting may be the responsible move. And for someone who already owns a home, the better decision may be to stay where they are and make a few targeted improvements instead of moving.

I’m Richard McDill, managing broker at Fluid Realty and partner with Turntide Construction. This is exactly the type of decision Jana and I can help you work through.

Even if moving is only a remote possibility, send me a message, call or text me to book a quick conversation. You do not need to know which direction you are going before reaching out. We can look at the complete picture, talk through the available options and determine the smartest next step together.

The goal is not to convince you to buy a house. It is to help you make the right housing decision for your specific situation.
